Prof. Dr. Ümit KERVAN graduated from Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 2001, ranking third in his class. From 2002 to 2007, he worked as an assistant at the Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic of Türkiye Higher Specialization Hospital in Ankara. In 2007, he served as a visiting assistant at the University of Geneva's Faculty of Medicine, Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic in Switzerland. After completing his mandatory service at Mardin State Hospital from 2007 to 2009, he began working as a Specialist Doctor at Türkiye Higher Specialization Training and Research Hospital's Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic in 2009. He served as Chief Assistant at the same hospital from 2010 to 2013 and continued as an Education Officer from 2013 to 2017. In 2011–2012, he completed his Heart-Lung Transplantation and Artificial Heart Devices Training at the University of Pittsburgh's Faculty of Medicine in the USA. In 2014, he received Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy Training at the University of California's Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic. Since 2009, he has been the Coordinator of Cardiology-Cardiovascular Surgery (Heart Centers) at the Ministry of Health.
Since 2019, Dr. Kervan has been working as a Heart Transplant Specialist and Training Specialist in the High Specialization Cardiovascular Surgery Department at Health Sciences University Ankara City Hospital. As of 2021, he is a member of the Ministry of Health's Board of Specialization in Medicine (TUK).
Dr. Kervan specializes in artificial intelligence-supported artificial heart devices, heart-lung transplantation, heart failure surgery, pulmonary endarterectomy, aortic surgery, and structuring of heart center clinics. He plays an active role in numerous important scientific boards and organizations both in Türkiye and abroad. Along with holding various administrative positions in Türkiye, he has authored many national and international scientific publications, papers, and book chapters. His academic contributions include 15 thesis consultancies, 95 articles published in peer-reviewed journals (23 national and 72 international), 110 papers presented at scientific congresses and published in proceedings books, and authorship of 10 national and international books or book chapters.
Dr. Kervan serves as an active member of the Scientific Committee on Heart Transplantation of the Republic of Türkiye's Ministry of Health, Chairman of the Cardiovascular Surgery TUKMOS Commission of the Ministry of Health, Member of the Board of Specialization in Medicine (TUK) of the Ministry of Health, and Member of the Working Group of the Science, Technology and Innovation Policies Board of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye.
On August 5, 2024, Dr. Kervan was appointed as the President of the Health Institutes of Türkiye (TÜSEB).
Prof. Dr. Ümit KERVAN is married and has two children.
