President of TÜSEB Prof. Dr. Erhan AKDOĞAN and his accompanying delegation visited Bezmiâlem Vakıf University's Historical Beykoz Campus, where the Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology is located
Bezmiâlem Vakıf University's Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, with its two centuries of rich history, conducts its work within the historic Beykoz Kışlası (Beykoz Barracks). The institute is actively engaged in research and development activities in various fields, including industrial enzymes, Hepatitis B vaccine production, malaria, Crimean-Congo fever, and parathyroid hormone production. These efforts not only mark a significant milestone in reversing the brain drain, but also aim to establish substantial domestic production in the healthcare sector to reduce dependency on imports.
As part of the visit, a meeting was held where President of TÜSEB Prof. Dr. Erhan AKDOĞAN, Prof. Dr. Ateş KARA, Director of Türkiye Vaccine Institute, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu YÜCEL, Vice Director of Türkiye Cancer Institute, Batuhan YEŞİLYURT, Head of TÜSEB Project Management and Support Department, and Ayşegül ALİOĞULLARI, Deputy Private Secretary, were present. During this meeting, Prof. Dr. Rümeyza KAZANCIOĞLU, Rector of Bezmiâlem Vakıf University, and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ziya DOYMAZ, Director of the Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, provided updates on their ongoing research and activities.
During the visit, inspections were conducted at the laboratories within Bezmiâlem Vakıf University's Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology that adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Discussions focused on the establishment of a collaborative platform between TÜSEB and Bezmiâlem Vakıf University, with the aim of enhancing mutual cooperation in the context of the vision for localization in healthcare, particularly in the field of conventional mRNA vaccine techniques.
