Visit of Prof. Dr. Ümit KERVAN, President of the Health Institutes of Türkiye, and His Delegation to Cuba

Prof. Dr. Ümit KERVAN, President of Health Institutes of Türkiye (TÜSEB), and the accompanying delegation, including Prof. Dr. Ateş KARA, Head of Türkiye Vaccine Institute, and Prof. Dr. F. Duygu ÖZEL DEMİRALP, Head of Türkiye Biotechnology Institute, visited Cuba within the framework of bilateral collaborations.

During the visit, Prof. Dr. Ümit KERVAN, President of TÜSEB, and the accompanying delegation met with the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel BERMÚDEZ. President Díaz-Canel expressed his satisfaction with Türkiye's requests for cooperation in the fields of healthcare and science, highlighting the historical friendship and collaboration between the two countries. President Díaz-Canel emphasized Cuba's commitment to promoting scientific research, innovation, and particularly collaboration in the fields of healthcare and biotechnology. Referring to the initial meetings held in 2022, President Díaz-Canel stated, "We have decided to promote cooperation between our nations in science and innovation, scientific research, particularly in healthcare and biotechnology," expressing that this visit is of great importance to ensure continuity and deepen existing relations.

Scientific and Healthcare Cooperation Between Cuba and Türkiye Strengthens

Prof. Dr. Ümit KERVAN, President of Health Institutes of Türkiye, emphasized Türkiye's commitment to cooperation with Cuba in the fields of healthcare and scientific research. He highlighted that our President supports collaboration in scientific research and development. He stated that the aim of this visit was to particularly strengthen the cooperation between Türkiye and Cuba. KERVAN noted that these meetings represent an important step in strengthening scientific partnerships between the two countries and emphasized the need to develop mutually beneficial projects, particularly in the fields of vaccines, biotechnology, and healthcare.

Despite the geographical distance between Cuba and Türkiye, it was emphasized that there is significant potential for cooperation between the two countries. In this context, it was noted that joint projects in the healthcare sector, scientific research, and innovation are expected to further deepen relations between the countries. It was also stated that such meetings, which promote cooperation between the two nations, strengthen relationships not only between governments but also between the people. The dedicated contributions of the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Türkiye, Alejandro Francisco Díaz PALACIOS, have significantly contributed to the advancement and strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, playing a key role in cementing a strong bond of friendship.

President of TÜSEB and Accompanying Delegation Met with the Deputy Minister of Health of Cuba

During the visit, productive discussions were held with Dr. Tania Margarita Cruz HERNÁNDEZ, the Deputy Minister of Health of Cuba. The Minister expressed appreciation for Türkiye's contributions to the healthcare system and emphasized the need to further expand cooperation opportunities between the two countries. Despite the geographical distance between Cuba and Türkiye, the great potential for collaboration in the fields of science and healthcare was highlighted.

The visit, which includes Prof. Dr. Ateş KARA, Head of Türkiye Vaccine Institute, and Prof. Dr. F. Duygu ÖZEL Demiralp, Head of Türkiye Biotechnology Institute, aims to expand the partnerships between Türkiye and Cuba from a broader perspective. It was stated that necessary steps are being taken to carry out more joint projects in the field of health. This visit is considered an important step for the strong collaborations and partnerships between Cuba and Türkiye.
