Global Burden of Disease Training Program Jointly Organized by Health Institutes of Türkiye (TÜSEB) and Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME)
In the framework of the cooperation conducted under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Health Institutes of Türkiye (TÜSEB) and Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), a training program titled 'Utilization of Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Data: Health Indicators, Comparative Analysis, and Policy Applications' was held on April 13–14, 2026, at the T.R. Ministry of Health Bilkent Campus.
The program was organized by the IHME delegation from the United States with the contributions of internationally renowned scientists Prof. Dr. Mohsen Naghavi, Prof. Dr. Enis Barış, and Sarah Dillard. Experts and researchers from various institutions and organizations affiliated with the T.R. Ministry of Health participated in the event.
During the training, comprehensive information was presented regarding the methodology of Global Burden of Disease studies, data sources, modeling approaches, and the interpretation of key health indicators such as DALY, YLL, YLD, and HALE. Furthermore, current analyses for Türkiye and neighboring countries within the scope of the GBD 2023 estimates were discussed.
Throughout the program, approaches for measuring the impact of diseases, injuries, and risk factors on public health, as well as analyses of causes of death and methods for improving data quality, were evaluated. In addition to theoretical knowledge, participants took an active role in practical sessions, gaining the opportunity to conduct analyses using real-world datasets. These efforts aimed to contribute to the more effective utilization of health data in Türkiye and to support evidence-based policy-making processes.
This training program has made a significant contribution to the accurate interpretation of health data and its effective integration into policy-making processes.
Within the scope of collaborations carried out with national and international stakeholders, TÜSEB continues its efforts to strengthen Türkiye's scientific capacity in the field of health.
